Our Vision:

Our grand vision is to become a global leader in coffee supply—introducing a diverse range of African coffee blends, such as Ethiopian and Kenyan coffee— while using sustainable solutions to address critical global challenges. Through coffee, we envision holistic community development in the countries we source from, where every cup fuels progress and purpose.

Meet Mekdelawit Belay

Co founder of WayKup

I’m Mekdelawit Belay, born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — so naturally, coffee had to be part of my story.

Giving back to my community has always been a core part of who I am, and it just so happens that my journey starts with coffee. WayKup coffee is literally my fuel as I navigate life, learn, build, and bring meaningful projects to fruition. Through this venture, I hope to be part of other people’s journeys too - visionaries, changemakers, and those relentlessly working toward their goals.

I love developing ideas through continuous research, deep conversations, and real-world application — always guided by what people truly need. I’m excited to see where this path leads.

Meet Wasseem Abaza

Co founder of WayKup

I’m Wasseem Abaza, born and raised in Toledo, Oh USA, a professor of Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainability in Dubai, UAE and a self- (and others-)

described coffee addict. I’ve been drinking coffee since before I was supposed to. On a chance trip to Africa many years ago, I learned the indigenous tribes, mostly the women and young girls, spend up to 12 hours a day walking to sources of water and bringing it back for the village, exposing them to dangers and depriving them of an education. Ever since then I’ve wanted to do something that would provide a reliable source of water that was both consistent and didn’t require the burden or concern they faced on a daily basis.

When Mekdalawit and I started talking about a coffee company, I knew immediately it was our chance to do some good in the world. For several years I’ve been teaching others how to start social enterprises, businesses that provide real and sustained impact in the world, and have always been an advocate for taking action and implementing ideas with a plan. WayKup is my chance to practice what I preach, one cup at a time
